Digital driver licences are coming for learner and probationary drivers in Victoria.
This follows the successful statewide release for full licence holders in May 2024. More than 1 million Victorians have already activated a digital driver licence on their smartphone - it’s now learner and probation drivers’ turn.
A digital driver licence is an easy, convenient and secure way to verify your identity, provide your licence status or prove your age.
There are things you can do now to get ready for your digital learner or probationary driver licence by creating a myVicRoads or a Service Victoria account and downloading the app.
We’re updating the Service Victoria and myVicRoads apps so you can use your digital learner or probationary driver license to verify your age or identity at pubs, clubs, and RSLs.
It may take time for some businesses to transition to digital licences and physical cards will continue to be accepted as usual.
We are working to implement digital driver licences as smoothly as possible, recognising the change involved.
Digital driver licences have been overwhelmingly popular with huge numbers of Victorians. If you are one of the few who run into any problems, you can visit the VicRoads and Service Victoria websites to find out more or contact 13 11 71 for support.
